Online Magazine a New Resource for LDS Teen and Young Adult Women

An online magazine has been receiving a lot of buzz among young Latter-Day Saint women. Teens and young adults alike are excited when they stumble onto JenMagazine.com and find something that fills a need that has long gone unfulfilled. Jennifer Loch, founder of Jen Magaz Tips: Find Street Fashion Online(may be you can find what you want on the oasap.com) ine talks about the inspiration behind it:

"Growing up as an LDS teenager, I loved fashion and one of the things I liked to do in my spare time was read the fashion and lifestyle magazines that are popular among teen and young adult women. Many of the images, articles and opinions found in these magazines glamorized things that were opposed to my religious beliefs, and I often found myself wishing to go against my beliefs in order to be as glamorous and 'cool' as the people in these magazines seemed. I feel that over the years these popular magazines had a negative influence on my life as they influenced my values to be more aligned with those of the world and less aligned with my religious beliefs.

"Later after I got married I was struck with the idea of creating a magazine for girls like me--with fashionable modest clothing ideas for those who are interested in being in style without compromising their standards and with fun articles, tips, news and reviews that are more in line with the interests and lifestyle of a Latter-Day Saint.

"At first the idea was to start a printed magazine, but being young with no capital and no experience in how to go about starting a magazine, I felt it would take many years to develop and carry out something like that. I knew that this magazine was needed now and I didn't want it to be one of those ideas that just sits on the shelf. I decided to put the idea of a printed magazine on hold and start with something more manageable: an online magazine."

Jen Magazine contains the same kind of articles you would find in the popular women's magazines except that they match the values of the Latter-Day Saints (and most other Christian denominations). There are articles of a spiritual nature alongside reviews of popular movies, advice columns, beauty and fitness articles, and of course seasonal fashion picks including modest swimwear suggestions since spring is almost here.

Loch says "In my younger years, my choices in other types of media such as music and television also exerted a negative influence on me. That's why at Jen Magazine we offer realistic media alternatives for people with young tastes. For example, our music section is full of links to clean hip-hop, pop, rock, etc. that most young people would actually listen to."

While Jen Magazine is specifically geared toward LDS young women, it is frequented by members of many Christian denominations as a fun and useful resource that reinforces Christian values. One of the things readers say they appreciate most about the "magazine" is that it helps them remember that contrary to how it may sometimes seem, there are many girls all over the world who share their beliefs, convictions and concerns.

With an online magazine comes a benefit that most printed magazines don't offer; Jen Magazine is available to anyone for free just by going to JenMagazine.com. Since it isn't published monthly like a printed magazine, Jen Magazine is updated throughout the month and visitors will often find new articles daily.
