The San Diego, CA Local Chapter gathered on August 21st for a professional networking meeting at the Officer's Club at MCAS Miramar. Donations from members and guests for the local Dress for Success organization were collected. Plans were made for the Chapter's continued support this quarter of the nonprofit group, whose mission is to prepare disadvantaged women in work and life by providing them with professional clothes, resources, and tools.
San Diego, CA Local Chapter President Melody Bakhshandeh welcomed members and guests to the luncheon and thanked member First Lieutenant Natalie Lamb, who made arrangements for the delicious buffet luncheon.
"It was an excellent meeting venue and it was decided that the Officer's Club would be our regular meeting place unless the location changes to visit a sponsor, speaker, or charity," said Melody.
After the last meeting's minutes were read and approved online, members and guests introduced themselves and spoke briefly about their businesses. Next, the donations of business suits and attire for Dress for Success were collected.
"Dress for Success San Diego is the San Diego, CA Local Chapter's third quarter charity," said Melody. "At our next meeting on September 18th we will have a Business/Business Casual Clothing Drive for Dress for Success and we are reserving a table at the September 19th Moonlight Chic event."
Member Cheryl Young continues to steward the clothing generously donated by members and guests. At the second Chapter drive in September, donations of new and used suits and business attire for women of all sizes will be accepted, as well as monetary donations.
Melody said that she and Chapter Vice President Manda Wallbridge will email members the meeting agenda and clothing drive reminder. Manda will take the lead on reserving a table for members and guests at the upcoming Dress for Success event. There is an August 31st deadline for member reservations that will be emailed and Melody will put the information on the NAPW Wall.
The Chapter's fourth quarter charity undertaking was discussed at the meeting and it was mentioned that Project Compassion is a possibility. Melody will confirm with member Sandra Jackson, who is the organization's President that she will speak at the Chapter's September meeting and talk more about Project Compassion and its mission.
Plans for upcoming meetings and events were also discussed. In addition to the September Dress for Success event, there will be a NAPW Happy Hour on October 18th, location to be announced, and in November, plans are underway for a Mary Kay class.
It was decided that the official start time for future meetings will be 12:15pm following lunch orders, in consideration of wait staff. A more formal agenda will be introduced and approved next meeting. It was agreed to add member introductions again and business/personal announcements to the end of the meeting to encourage more open networking.
